State Level Workshop on Sustainable Development Goal India Index 2020-21
The State Level Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals India Index 2020-21 and Multidimensional Poverty Index was held on 12th and 13th July 2021 at Old Conference Hall, Secretariat and hosted by the Planning and Development Department in collaboration with NITI Aayog.
The NITI Aayog Team Headed by Ms. Sanyukta Samaddar I.A.S., Adviser SDG along with officials of NITI Aayog participated in the workshop. The meeting was chaired by Thiru. Vikram Kapur, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department with the participation of Additional Chief Secretaries /Principal Secretaries/Secretaries of the stake holder departments and in virtual mode by several Heads of Departments and District Collectors. During the meeting the Adviser, NITI Aayog handed over a copy of the recently released SDG India Index 2020-21 to the Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department and the Department of Economics and Statistics released a document - Tamil Nadu SDG Fact Sheet 2020 and the first copy was handed over to the Adviser, SDG from NITI Aayog.
Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department in his keynote address informed about the State’s commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
He further highlighted the fundamental principle of the Government of Tamil Nadu, viz., “Everything for Everyone” and informed that the Vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister is for achieving holistic development of the State especially in 7 major sectors, viz., Economy, Agriculture, Drinking Water, Education, Urban Development, Rural Infrastructure and Social Justice in the next 10 years, which is in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ms. Sanyukta Samaddar, I.A.S., NITI Aayog presented Tamil Nadu’s progress on the SDG India Index 2020-21 and highlighted the areas of focus to accelerate Tamil Nadu’s consistent march towards achieving the SDGs. The Secretaries and officials representing the departments expressed their views on the indicators used in the SDG India Index with respect to their departments. The first day’s session ended with the concluding remarks of the Principal Secretary/Commissioner, Department of Economics and Statistics.
On the second day, the discussion was on the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), its indicators, computational methodology, scores for India, Tamil Nadu and its districts. The Adviser, SDG, NITI Aayog informed that the National MPI is expected to be released by August 2021. During the meeting the line departments expressed their views on the parameters identified under MPI. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by the Member Secretary, State Development Policy Council.
