      The election work is supervised subject to the superintendence, direction and control of the Election Commission, by the Chief Electoral Officer (appointed by the Election Commission) and the officers and staff working under him. The Chief Electoral Officer is normally appointed from the Indian Administrative Service.

     The district electoral machinery comprises the District Election Officers (DEOs) [generally the Collectors or District Magistrates; in the case of Chennai, the Commissioner of the Corporation], Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) & AEROs (for preparation & maintenance of electoral rolls) (generally officers in the level of Sub-Divisional Magistrates), Returning Officers (ROs) & AROs (for conduct of elections) and other officials [like Personal Assistant (Elections) to the Collectors, Presiding and Polling officers] appointed for the conduct of elections. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer was set up in Tamil Nadu before the first general elections in independent India in 1952, with reference to the provisions of Section 13A of the Representation of People Act, 1950, for carrying out the following

Functions and Duties

Conduct of elections/ bye-elections to

  • the 234 Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
  • the 39 Lok Sabha seats allotted to Tamil Nadu (Note: These two elections are direct elections where the people directly participate.)
  • the 18 Rajya Sabha seats allocated to Tamil Nadu
  • the office of the President of India
  • the office of the Vice-President of India.

Note: The elections to these offices are indirect elections through their elected representative in Parliament and in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

It is the duty of all election related officers to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner and in accordance with all relevant Acts, Rules, Orders and executive directions of the Election Commission of India.

(ii) Setting up of Polling Stations.
(iii) Preparation and maintenance of an error free photo Electoral Roll.
(iv) Preparation and issue of Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to all electors.

      The Single Window Counseling for the admission of the students for B.S.M.S/B.A.M.S/B.H.M.S/B.U.M.S/ B.N.Y.S Courses at Government and Self-financing I.S.M. Colleges for the academic 201 -13 was held between 14th and 18th of September 2012 at the Selection Committee office, Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Medicine Campus, Arumbakkam, Chennai – 600106 and allotments were made.

2) As on date 13  vacancies have arisen in Government I.S.M. Colleges and 175 vacancies in the Self Financing I.S.M. Colleges, breakup details of which are given  below :



3) For the above vacancies movement counseling will be held on 12.10.2012 at 9.00 AM in the First phase and as a sequence to this counseling a recounseling will be held on the same day in the Second phase for the subsequent vacancies which may arise both in Government and Self-financing ISM colleges.

4) For both the counseling the following candidates will not be eligible to participate:
(a)  Those who were absent during the first counseling
(b)  Those who signed the attendance register but didn't participate in the counseling 
(c)  Those who didn't produce Demand Draft of Rs.5,500/- at the time of counseling
(d)  Those who on their own choice through written declaration opted for Self Financing ISM Colleges, though vacancies existed in Government ISM colleges at the time of their turn.
(e)  Those who received allotment order during the first counseling but didn't join the college opted by them within the last day and time.

5)The candidates who are eligible to attend the movement and the subsequent recounseling as the case may be,  are as follows:
(a)   Those who opted for Waiting list during the first counseling
(b)    Those at the time of their turn,  due to non-availability of vacant seat in Government I.S.M College, have opted and joined self-financing ISM College.
(c)  During their turn during counseling due to non-availability of vacant seat in their opted system of medicine, have opted for a college which offered another system of medicine.

6)Candidates who have participated in the first counseling and tendered a Demand draft for the value of Rs. 5500/- and received their allotment order  need not bring  again a demand draft during this counseling.    Further those who have opted for waiting list should bring  a Demand Draft for the value of Rs. 5500/- from any nationalized bank  drawn on or after 04.09.2012 in favour of  “The Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, Chennai – 106”  payable at Chennai.

7)For the Kind attention of All candidates:
The movement and the subsequent recounseling will begin at 9 AM on 12.10.2012. All the candidates who wish to participate in this counseling should sign the attendance register before 10.00 AM so as to enable us to prepare the Merit list.  Late comers on any account will not be included in the Merit list and allowed to participate in the counseling.

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), established in 1982, celebrated its silver jubilee during this year. Functions with Head Office at Chennai, headed by Chairman, Member Secretary, one Additional Chief Environmental Engineers and Joint Chief Environmental Engineers, nineteen District offices headed by District Environmental Engineers and five District offices headed by Assistant Environmental Engineers.

To assist in the Analytical and Scientific side, the Board has established three Advanced Environmental Laboratories, ten District Environmental Laboratories and one Mobile Environmental Laboratories.

TNPCB is implementing the Pollution Control Legislations and Rules and Notifications framed therein. In discharging the duties entrusted to it, the Board investigates, collects and disseminates data relating to water, air and land pollution, lays down standards for sewage/trade effluent and emissions.

 (4) Thiru. K.Sakthivel, Special Sub-Inspector of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing,  Harur, Dharmapuri District
 (5) Thiru.K.Stalin Chandrasekar, Head Constable, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Madhavaram, Chennai for their outstanding work in curbing illicit liquor.

 The Medals will be given by Hon’ble Chief Minister on the occasion of Republic Day, 2013. A cash award of Rs.20,000/- to each of the awardees will also be presented along with the Medal.
